Aaron L Witten
Biographical Info
Aaron marched with the Grayson County (Leitchfield, KY) Cougar Band from 1990-1993, then with the Big Red Marching Band at Western KY University from 1993-1998, becoming a para-professional with both organizations after graduation for the 1999 and 2000 seasons, writing and instructing drill, advising on visual design elements, and doing some simple music arrangements.
While at WKU, Aaron minored in Music with an emphasis on conducting and composition. He founded and coordinated the “Drums on the Hill” show at Western annually from 1997-2001, a Drum Corp International event that saw upwards of 8,000 attendees.
After closing out the show, he went on the Drum Corps Midwest tour in the summer of 2002 and became certified as a Drum Corps International Visual judge (now inactive), under the mentorship of long-time late DCI Visual judge, Ed Warren.
He has written drill and instructed various high school marching bands over the years since, also being mentored by the late Dr. Joe Allison on how the strict scoring standards of DCI best translated to the KMEA scoring rubric.
He is an avid Drum Corps International enthusiast to this day and sponsor of that activity with the Friends of DCI program. He also has served on the FoDCI scholarship review committee for the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
In addition to being currently certified with KMEA for judging, he is proficient in setup, administration and use of the Competition Suite adjudication software and is also available for hire for setup & administration of Competition Suite software for any band competition.
