Outstanding high school marching bands from throughout Kentucky, Ohio, Missouri, and Tennessee will compete in the event, which is one of the nation’s most prominent marching band championships. The stadium is located at Roy and Sue Kidd Way, Richmond. Eastern Kentucky University is hosting the event. This is the first time Eastern Kentucky University will host a Bands of America Regional Championship.

High school marching bands will perform in preliminary competition, evaluated by a panel of nationally recognized music educators and marching band experts. The top 10 scoring bands will advance to the evening finals competition, where the Regional Champion will be named.

“We at Eastern Kentucky University are thrilled to be associated with Bands of America and Music for All in presenting this Regional Championship Contest at Kidd Stadium,” said Dr. Joe Allison, Director of Bands at EKU and Bands of America adjudicator and Music for All clinician, “Not only are our educational philosophies congruent, but the organization runs first-class events that we at the University can be proud of. This partnership should be of mutual benefit for all involved, and showcases a region of the country that produces high quality bands!”

Participating bands receive recorded and written comments from the adjudication panel.  Bands of America Championships are designed to provide educational value to the performing bands. “The educational process to enable band directors to help their students improve through performance models comes first at Bands of America Championships,” says Debbie Laferty Asbill, Director of Marketing and Communications at Music for All.
